Marlin model 90

Was looking at one in 16 ga. The top lever went back to center after opening the barrels, and I was told that it was how they were made, and to push the lever back to the right to close the gun. Didn't seem right to me, never saw a SxS or OU like that. Anybody have one and can enlighten me?

Harold, I just checked mine and the lever did return to center after opening, but I did not have to touch the lever again to close it.

Harold, when you close the gun, the top lever moves a .little on its own but you don't have to touch it. Must be the way Marlin designed them.

I would think that even if the way designed which I have seen, it would help to prevent wear to aid it by moving the lever by hand to close it. If it were mine I would, as I do my Parkers, Foxes, Ithacas, etc.

Many guns cam the lever from the center to the right when the gun is closed. No effort is required by the shooter. The camming is performed by the barrel lug.

Just an FYI in regards to the Model 90. Sears hired Engineers to have an O/U gun designed and contracted with Marlin to have it manufactured. Marlin later put their own name on it.
