20ga circa 1921 letters as 2 3/8" chambers??

The letter on this 20ga specifies 2 3/8" chambers? I assume it was intended for 2 1/2" shells? What say U?

It makes sense, but is odd. When was the gun made? If a later date when 2 3/4” was more common, that might account for it. Is it a lighter weight gun?

I would say yes, but then it could be a typo. For what it's worth Craig, I've been shooting 2 3/4", 3/4oz. low pressure loads out of all my 20 ga. guns for years with no problems.

My 1930 vintage Parker Bros. 20-gauge has the 2 3/8-inch chambers intended for 2 1/2-inch shells.

Who wrote the "letter"?

In line with parkers normal practice of chambering 1/8” shorter than the intended shell. For better shot penetration.

As were my 1924 Trojan chambers. I didn't letter the gun however.

I have not lettered my circa 1920's 20 ga VHE but the cambers measure 2 3/8", I have shot 2 3/4" low pressure shells but typically I shoot RST 2 1/2"
