Research Letters

Mark has asked me to let everyone know that he is unable to do any research letters for now. We had a severe storm here in Va. Beach yesterday and he has lost power. He expects the power to be restored in the next day or two and will be back on the job ASAP. Thank you for your patience.

I got my power on about an hour ago. I am working on 8 letters for this week so they are going to be a little late. Thanks to Buddy for posting my power problems.

Mark,

Don't give it a second thought, OK? The difference between you and me is that if I lose power, everyone will know, as the PGCA forum, sites and servers (which all run out of my home office) will be off line until power is restored.. :)

So, don't sweat the small stuff.... :-) Our thanks for all you do for the PGCA, Mark!!!

Hope you had some time to R&R that 'vette with your time off???

;)

J. D., No backup for an essential service?

John Dunkle 05-26-2011 09:30 PM

I do backups on all the servers, and many of my servers are either RAID 5, 2 or 10. Also, I have APCs, but if the main OCs (partitioned and dedicated fiber) go down, and the T1s (I do round robin off my FQDNS), then the sites will be down.

Or, if I trip over the power cords?

The good news is that I had no damage. The newspaper said we had gust to 78 mph. I also had pea size hail. I have lots of large trees and all came through fine. My neighbor had a 10 inch limb break off and it landed in my driveway. The lean up took two days and Things are back to normal. John, I understood what you said up to the servers part. After that I'll take your word for it.

No time to play with the vette. Maybe this weekend.

I burned about 25 gallons of gas in my Honda gererator over two days. It was nice cutting it off yesterday. Too damn noisy. I had some a/c, lights, refrig and freezer going so it wasn't too bad. Back to the letters.

:vconfused::vconfused::vconfused: Yeah, what he said!

Thinking more of the cord trip type of power loss and Marks solution or a Fairbanks Battery.

Damn!, that's bad and hurricane season right around the corner, They do trade those old Vettes in on full house generator sets, don't know if they bring much on the trade though.

You know, it's funny you say that - because that's now EXACTLY what I'm thinking? In fact...

Mark, if you send me that 'Vette, I'm pretty sure I can put it on a set of rollers from a dyno - and attach those rollers to an electric turbine I'd hook up?????? Fact, I'll bet if I had that setup, and put that 'Vette into fourth and mashed the pedal to the metal - I could light up the whole neighborhood, along with my servers and circuits??

Just a thought, mind you..??

John
