Imports

Does anyone know what this Tariff debacle is going to do to imported shotguns? Do we have an idea when it goes into play? I bought an older English gun in December from Holts, its do here now but I can’t get an answer if it will be held up and at what cost? Thanks JEFF LANGBEHN

I would be surprised if it would affect personal transactions.

Jeff,

I talked to a friend who imports guns and he talked with his customs broker. The broker told him tariffs get applied when the gun comes in. He hasn’t imported anything since the tariff announcement. Please let us know when you receive your gun.

I believe Customs will collect the tarrif fees and the fee will be collected when the firearm is picked up. I imported a couple of Merkels years ago and had to pay the customs fee before I could pick up the guns. Paid it at the Customs office at Dulles International Airport.

Debacle? 170 countries levy tariffs on US goods and services. They have for over 50 years. That is unsustainable for our economy. Mr. Trump is levelling the playing field. Some have already come to the table and changed the way they do business. Supporting other nations that control wages, suppress their supply chain, restrict what goods are used domestically, etc has to stop. Things will get better and that doesn't happen overnight. As Nick Saban always said, "It's the process, trust the process."

How many times do you think someone in Beijing buys something and the sticker says "Made in the USA" NEVER. Every one of us buys stuff everyday that says "Made in China" This is long overdue. People bitch we can't buy gun powder or lead or afford American products then bitch about the tariffs. You can't eat both sides of the pancake.

Mike, I’m simply trying to find out how it’s going to affect my hobby of over 60 years. I shoot and own lots of really fine doubles that come from America and from England and from Spain and from Europe. The choice of “ Europe trash “ is simply inappropriate and makes you sound ignorant. It has also created a nightmare in the stock market that has cost me and many people around the world a fortune, including many of my farming friends, before you take off on some kind of a tangent I have been a Republican my entire life. I refer to all guns made across the pond Eurotrash, so don’t get your undies in a twist. Brownings I call J.A. Pan gun co. If one plays the market, I’m sure one has patience. Fortunately we don’t delve into the stock market. That’s a good thing because patience is not one of my spiritual gifts! My wife’s retirement took a big hit in the 2008 bubble burst. As the saying goes, fool me once….

It’ll all bounce back. I hope for you and your friends that it’s as painless and short lived as possible.

I just took home my newest "Non Import", a 1938 Winchester Model 21 Trap Grade Skeet.
Made in America, by Americans, for Americans. It's always sunny in New Haven.
