VH @ 16 ga stock/buttplate
5 Attachment(s)
Hello to all,
I was fortunate to have been able to enter the Parker brotherhood a little while back with the finding of #109115 VH 16 ga @ 28” barrels. I will need to put some $$ work into her as the gun hit the deck at some point in its life. End result from the fall or drop was a cracked butt plate as well as a few cracks in the stock. I plan on having this one for the long haul to use as I’m a 16ga guy. Certainly want to get it properly repaired as well as gone through etc.. Came with ivory front and mid beads installed which I have not tried on a gun before so I’m happy. Excited to carry this one in the Northeast fields and woods when the time comes. Also have ordered a letter for her. |
Welcome aboard! I too am a 16 gauge VH 28" gun owner, and I have had some minor work on mine. It had a reasonable amount of case color, so I had the chokes opened up a bit, the barrels rust blued, the action stripped and cleaned, and a crack in the dhbp repaired.
I wish I had lengthened the chambers, when I was having that done. But it will be going to Briley for that, before next grouse season. Like you, I am a 16 gauge guy, and I plan to keep it primarily for a grouse gun. Some decry any modifications, but this is a shooter, not an IRA. |
Welcome Dan, Always happy to see another new Parker shooter. Repro butt plates are available all over the internet and sometimes eBay. Also, a few of the larger gun sales sites have them. Originals can be found here and there. It will need a little fitting as well. Good luck getting that 16 afield!
Be well, Dean |
That stock and buttplate are very repairable. Both pieces.

Thank you all for the kind welcome, direction, and reassurances . I enjoy the history of such items and actually using them. Same with my other passion vintage fly fishing equipment, I buy to use. We too get into in-depth arguments about restorations or leaving things original. A lot to be said for both sides.
Happy to know there are some parts out there and that repairs can be done. If Mr. Dudley’s books were/are open it would be roaring across Int 90 his way . |
I have gotten replacement butt plates from Dixie Gun Works; they've worked very well for me.

I have a VH( 20) 26" barrels. Need to replace the stock. I was cut off about 2" near as I can tell.#114032 frame O K7 3/1 on inside. I want to confirm it's a 20ga and what chokes it has. Also where can I find the correct stock?
|
its a 16ga according to the serialization book. replacement stocks rarely fit. a butt transplant would work.

16s are the classic new england grouse and woodcock guns. I was born with a 16 and hunted the Neponsett meadows growing up. Took a lot of wild game birds with my grandfathers 16 vh back then. Still have it but a dozen or so yrs ago I had Larry DelGrego restock it to my dimensions. Great gun and still great gague.

Mr. Dudley was gracious enough to use his skill to bring this gun back into action. Looking forward to taking her on long walks soon enough.
