I inherited this 12 gauge, serial number 7263, which allegedly was owned by my Great Grandfather. I have a letter from Parker explaining it was built in 1878, and little other information is known. Can anyone glean any details from these photos?

It appears to be a nice condition early dollar grade lifter. The fact that it appears to have damascus barrels rather than Twist Steel indicates it's likely not the lowest grade.
More pictures of the markings on the receiver water table and barrel flats and rib markings would be helpful. From what you show of the stock and forend, the wood looks very good. It was not uncommon for the stock to be uncheckered on these early dollar grades. What length are the barrels and do they have any pitting internally? Looks like a nice gun to me.

It is a Lifter action and the lowest of the dollar quality grades and has either Twist of some description or Laminated barrels but not Damascus Steel.
The front bead sight has been crudely replaced with a screw and filed to a bead shape. I did that to a Stevens pump 20 gauge back in the 1970's and it worked quite nwell.
