Must have been a studio portrait. The background is a painted canvas it appears, and I can't imagine anyone would shoot in those heavy work gloves.

Yup. Thanks, Arthur. Many antique photos of supposed hunters, shooters, etc. are studio photos. They are still fun to collect.
