16ga duck gun?
Folks
Need some advice. Looking at 16ga vh with 1 frame on 28” barrels. I’m I good to shoot boss 4 shot or 5s thru it? Or should I look for a frame 2 ? Weight is 3-5. I do not know what the gun weighs. Jeremy |
We need to know more about the loads. You'll never find a #2 frame 16.

Craig, should I have stated "You'll never find a #2 frame 16 that is for sale." I have an even better choice, a #3 frame 16, but it's not for sale.

I have a 16 gauge Trojan (1 frame) with 26" barrels and shoot Boss #5 with great effect on puddle ducks and divers over decoys. Would not use for sea ducks...

The current Boss offering in 16 gauge is the short chambered 2 9/16” 3 dram loads that were meant to cycle the old Browning A5s. Boss ran some 2 3/4” fiber wad low pressure shells a few years ago, but they are not commercially available. RST at one time had low pressure Bismuth but they are currently out of stock. Salt Creek Ammo also makes short chambered low pressure 16 bismuth but they also sold out.
I shoot the 3 drams out of my Trojan. The 2 3/4” 1 1/8 oz high brass that my grandfather shot for years worked for him. I would get your VH checked out by a gunsmith and go from there. |
I had 1 1/2 frame 16 offered to me several years ago by a well known gunsmith. Passed on it at the time..
I have a box of those older Boss fiber wad 16 in Bismuth 5's, that's what I was using recently in South Dakota in my Sterlingworth 16. Yea, they are no longer available. |
