Late Season Mallards with a BH
5 Attachment(s)
Normally marsh hunting is over by now in Central NY, frozen out. But we have had a run of warm days and the creek running through our marsh unfroze so Mark Kircher and I decided to give it a go. I killed two red leg Drake Mallards with my Parker BH Damascus 30" F/F #2 frame loaded with my handloaded #4 bismuth. Nellie was in charge of retrieving duties. Who says nice guns don't get hunted LOL.

Well played Craig. Nice engraving on that BH

great pics and beautiful gun

Love the late season fat mallards and killed with a very nice gun!

Everything about that hunt looks special—birds, gun…and a special pup.

I love photos of dogs making water retrieves especially when they have to fight their way through reeds, branches and other duck water crap. Thanks for sharing.

Great to see Nellie doing what she loves to do. You can always get another BH.

Daryl: I have been blessed with great dogs. Nellie had some complicated health issues this Fall. After 3 months of chasing the riddle of her issues I believe we have figured it out. Three months ago I was pretty sure I would have to put her down at 6yo. Now I'm pretty sure she will live a full life. My new pup Mollie is coming along nicely, she is with her trainer in SC all winter. Nellie will get plenty of upland work and a few days of waterfowl hunting as my senior dog next year.

That's fantastic news about Nellie. Can't wait to hear the whole story of her recovery. Yes you have been blessed with great dogs. Lucy comes to mind. That blind retrieve she made in SD was textbook and I wish we had it on video. It's NYE so I'm raising a toast to Nellie. May our dogs live long and prosper. BLM.
