Unlucky Deer

Came by rather close so I shot him with a DH 6 frame 34” gun shooting vintage factory 0 buck loads from the 30’s as aged by Professor Noreen . Shot him at twenty yards at the boom of the gun he ran towards the tree I was in and dropped 10-15 feet from the base of the tree . The third picture was taken from my perch in the tree .

I hadn’t patterned the load before going as I didn’t want to waste any and had a handloaded buck load in the left barrel in case the vintage shell didn’t go boom . When skinning the little fellow I saw plenty holes and even found one in the hide on the off side .

Ooch! Nice going. More venison for Mike's big cookout in July.

Good thing you only kill small deer, that way the backstraps and t-loins are nice and tender! :rotf::rotf::rotf::corn:

I dunno but I’ve been doing it for a number of years . My first try was with my grandfathers circa 1881 W&C Scott 10 gauge crystal indicator SxS . Since then I’ve used about a dozen Parker’s all gauges from 8 to 16 an LC Smith Quality 2 10 and an Ithaca NID 10 . I’ve not only used buckshot but I’ve come up with loads using slugs and roundballs or punkin balls as some refer to them .
