View yesterday from my favorite bird cover here in NH. Not to shabby! This is why I love my home state!

Well here’s my woodcock cover.
The flights have not dropped in yet but we did manage a few flushes… Sure wish we still had Gracie. And yes, those saplings have been rubbed. . |
Steve - How did you do on the woodcock?
. |
Not good yet. I do not think the flight birds are down here yet. A few residents that’s about it. When the flights are down my favorite cover is scary good. Usually the last week of October it gets good.

Same here in VT's NEK Steve. When the flights drop in it can be really good - like a flush every two or three minutes... just enough time to gather your wits.

Plenty of birds, and hunters, up in Pittsburg this WE. Weather was warm, 50-60s, and snow on top of Diamond Point and adjacent mountains.
|
Not surprised there are some birds in Pittsburg. Lots of native birds and first in the state to get migrants. We need this cool weather this coming weekend. Having hunted and guided bird and moose hunters in NH and Pittsburgh this is a typical pattern. To many hunters up there now for my taste. I prefer Errol until it to gets overrun.

I've been hunting the quail fields at myles sta dish and usually we find woodcock in the center hedgerows but not yet..Plenty of quail tho and I'm getting great birdwork from Sophie, me setter.
