1879 Parker Laminate Lifter
I finally got the 1879 Lifter back together. After getting the barrels back from Breck, I did a little more work on the stock and found an original top tang screw and fitted it. I found it in a box of Parker lifter parts I bought on eBay. I still need to dress up the top of the screw but at least it is engraved and hardened.
This is the tired gun I purchased and found the barrels were Parker Laminate. I posted a few pictures before of the refinished barrels. I also found a whole section of the side plate surround cracked lose at the level of the sidelock bottom. I had to remove this, cut a square flat raceway and replace that section of the stock. I also degreased the wood and repaired the web inside the stock and re-inlet that section. The stock got a refinish with shellac but nothing was done to the checkering. I was trying to do solid but minimum repairs to put the gun back in service with the original refinished barrels. They were worth the effort. Below are 3 original pictures and a few of the gun after reassembly. https://i.imgur.com/Ta2Gb6e.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kVNmXqr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/aT4jthz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xnX7UeN.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wYWl1YW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/s4yjiZ8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IZblETA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OE4JyWV.jpg I hope to hunt with the gun this fall. |
Interesting mix. Early wedged fore end with the later rounded breech face. Hope it shoots well for you.
