I really like Titewad powder.

Started using Titewad powder in target loads 12ga 3/4 and 7/8. Burns clean and is very consistent. With all the powder shortages it is nice to find great substitute for Clay Dot.

If that is a good substitute for Clay Dot, it could be another alternative for an 8g load. Should be close to the same load as our Clays load for the 8g.

I did find that the MEC bushing chart is way of for Titewad. I think I had to go down two sizes to get the powder drop I wanted

When I couldn't find Extra-lite any more I switched to Titewad. Like Craig says it is clean burning and consistent. Now when the Titewad is gone I've got Nitro 100NF to fall back on. According to Hodgdon is the same as Titewad. This will force me to shoot more 12ga guns as I have probably at least 5 years supply of the Nitro. Now if I only could find a use for it in the smallbores I love to shoot.

Don’t believe I’ve ever heard of Titewad except when some folks are speaking of me :rotf:

There’s an important consideration when loading the newer low volume/high energy powders along with correspondingly smaller MEC bushings numbered in the 'teens. It’s possible to get an overcharge of powder in a 12-gauge hull if you're inattentive or get flustered while clearing a jam, and particularly while using a progressive press. If you accidentally dump extra powder into the hull the wad column can compress and the crimp will look about normal. Yes, as our old familiar powder inventories get depleted we start to use what's available nowadays. Just be extra careful gents when loading with these modern powders and smaller bushings to get the powder weight drop per the published recipes.
