There is no part called a 'cocking rod'. Refer to the parts breakdown diagram under Technical Information on the home page and tell us what part you're looking for. Many of these internal parts are commonly found on Ebay, though I agree, Brian is a good source.

Never heard off it. If you're referring to 27, that's the Unhooking Pin.

Got a great gunsmith outstanding wood guy worked with Dave Wolf before he past.We both are retired but his shop has no A/C so its 100 plus here in Texas, not complaining mildest summer in 40 years. Kinda pumped been collecting sxs for 40 years with Russ Rupaell my mentor, never had a gun untouched.

What has worked for me (about 50% of the time) is to open the gun as wide as it will go, and remove the cocking hook screw. This won't work on many guns as the gap is not wide enough to remove the screw without galling it, against the water table.
This will allow you to get the barrels separated, but doesn't address the original problem. The gun will need to come apart to clean and properly lube the unhooking pin, crank, cocking slide, etc.

Sad to hear Dave Wolf passed away. He repaired a stock for me, his work was excellent, and he was great guy to chat with.

Chris T,Met Dave one day at Leo Bradshaws shop in Waco late 1980s.I picked up EE Lefever 20 but the stock was broken at the wrist and he said he would repair it if he got slow.6 months later I picked it up repaired completely finished think he felt sorry for me 30yr old pipeline rethink he charged me 700.The EE had the finest piece of wood that ever owned
