AH FOX XE 12

Here's another one I'd like to share. I bought this XE 12 from a friend and member, Jim B this past fall. I was extremely lucky to get this one! It's a 1921, has 28" barrels, full & full, both, .685, 14 1/4" LOP. I believe chambers are 2 1/2". Have shot dove and pigeon with it, and it does reach out and hits hard!

Those bores sound like big 16's or tiny 12's.

Very likely the chambers are 2 5/8-inch intended for 2 3/4-inch shells. The only two A.H. Fox Gun Co. catalogs that discuss chamber lengths are the large grey 1913 and 1914 "A FOX GETS THE GAME" catalogs --

They state the 12-gauge guns are regularly chambered for 2 3/4-inch shells, 16-gauge for 2 9/16-inch shells and 20-gauge for 2 1/2-inch shells.

I assume that’s .685" chokes not bores. I've measured many many Foxes with a good Stan Baker bore mike and the smallest 12-gauge in my spreadsheet was .721" in both barrels.

Thank you Stan.

Pretty certain Chris meant the muzzles measure .685". That would be choke constrictions in the "forties".

I really like the engraving pattern on the XE. Of all the new engraving on its models, Fox struck it just right on the XE.

Chris, you have quite the arsenal there.

Sorry, for any confusion. You're right Stan, that's at the muzzle. I should have just left it at full & full.

With chokes like that who needs a rifle! :rotf:

Righttt....actually I'm not familiar with the correct way of measuring choke. I grabbed this neat gauge off my bench and measured at the muzzle. I usually use my CSMC brass gauge and measure at the muzzle. Close enough for me! Looks like all these numbers on the gauge got me in trouble! My mistake, sorry for all the confusion.
