A friend of mine who works in the Shooting Sports department of the Kittery Trading Post is planning to follow us down to the shoot on Thurs morning and join you and the other campers last time I spoke to him. Dana is a great guy, I think you will like his company.

Harold,

I’m working on a batch of cookies for the campers. Really hoping the weather forecast improves.

I see a Fox/Lefever cookie competition this year. Sara's Lefever chocolate chips versus Mrs. Toolman's Fox recipe. I think Harry should be the judge LOL.

I asked him, but he mumbled something about how bad the room service was the last few times he went.

I believe it was 2012 or '13, the first time I went to Ernie's, Allen Maclane and I camped out. Fortunately we had our own tents, as the scene from around the campfire, in Blazing Saddles, came to mind. I believe I was upwind from Allan's tent, but surely not out of earshot. I've been 'rough' camping for better than 60 years, and apart from the luxury of lugging a Webber charcoal grill, still like to rough it. Allen asked what I thought he should bring in the way of food. I like to do a foil pack of vegetables, but when he unpacked a pressure cooker and a couple heads of broccoli, I gathered this was all new to him. It was just he and I those first couple years, but it caught on quickly. We came up with the ribs and beer thing, which seemed to be a hit. Harold (of Pickens Towing Service) brought his smoked pheasant, which added a touch of class. I've never been keen on broccoli since then.

I still enjoy tent camping, and this year will be my 50th consecutive year of an Antique Steam Meet, but it's just inside the limit of 2 hours away, and my spine issue won't allow for the 5 hrs trip to Hausmann's. Enjoy it while you can, and I'll be with you all in spirit.

Kathy used to bake a triple batch of cookies and Larry and Deb brought venison jerkey and sausage and a variety of olives and cold kielbasa slices and crackers and we all had ample samples of venison of all cuts they killed on their land in CT on the grill. It has always been a great time at the back corner of the camping field over the years - great times with good friends and good adult beverages. May it go on forever!! Viva la Camping Crowd and the Way They Do It!!
