VT Turkey Hunting

So far I haven’t been able to call any gobblers into range… hens yes, but the gobblers hang up at 80-100 yards. But it’s still very exciting.
Dorothy has been at “Turkey Camp” with me since Monday… SOS each day but she has loved the experience. She’s never hunted turkeys but she has taken 4 moose in Maine and countless deer and grouse so she’s no newbie to hunting.
After a frustrating morning of talking to gobblers back and forth until noon (legal quitting time) we were headed back to the truck and Lo and Behold - we wouldn’t go home empty handed!!
Sauteed in butter and olive oil we had them in scrambled eggs this morning… :):)

I am very jealous. Have a lifelong friend that taught me everything I know about turkey hunting...the main point was, once you encountered those tasty treats the hunting stopped and the picking started until our hats were full!
So good with a nice steak too! Thank you Dean and good luck when you get back out after Mr. Tom!

Gosh, sponge mushrooms. I haven't found or eaten any of them since I was a kid many years ago.

I just might have to go for a walk in our woods and look for some.

Dean, where is the best place to find them? Wish me luck.

Nothing like a skillet full of breaded Morrells to make my heart sing. No matter what you pair them with they are an epicurean delight.

We are int he South so frying breaded Morrells in a bit of bacon fat is the way to go.

Bill, oddly I found them in an arid area about the size of a large room in full sunlight in a Christmas tree field. I always thought they preferred shady damp areas.
