Repro 28 chokes

I just measured the chokes in my 2 barrel set 28 gauge reproduction. The 26” barrels marked q1 and q2 measured.003 and .007. About what I expected. The 28” barrels marked mod and full measured .014 and .034. I could barely fit the Skeets gauge in the left barrel. Is .034 common? That seems a bit excessive as I think .024 is considered extra full in 28 gauge. I’m going to try and pattern it this week and see what it looks like.

Your 28ga. Q1/Q2 and M/F 2-bbl. set is choked identically to mine. The M/F set at .014 and .034 is typical and in my experience, as expected. My recommendation is don’t get hung up by numbers. You’ll learn to love the .034 choking . . . lead those 50 yard high crossers by a canoe length and watch ‘em go poof!

You will not catch me grinding any metal out of those luscious 28ga. M/F chokes! I’ll say the same thing about my 20ga. M/F set which are even tighter in numbers than my 28.

My Baker gauge wouldn’t fit in the full choke barrel of my 28g Repro. I had to use an inside caliper.

What did it measure Frank?

I’m away from home but .034 sounds rightL: Edit left choke is .038

I have seen this type of choking on a lot of 28's, not just Parker. I have not run any tests, but suspect on a percentage basis they work better with moderate loads but not as well as with some of the newer heavy loads. Howver, the actual density may be higher with the heavier loads due to the increased payload. If this is true, it may be a technical problem and an operational win.

My full choke 28 gauge Repros have all measured exactly .039 of choke. Whether or not that causes higher percentages on the pattern board is only determined by actually shooting at a pattern board.

My Repro 28 with IC/MOD and Q1/Q2, both 26", measure as follows.

Incidentally, the right barrel of the Q1/Q2 is tighter as it should be...

Rt Q1 = .008"
Lt Q2 = .006"

Lt IC = .007"
Rt MOD = .017"

.

I had a chance to measure mine. The full choke barrel is .514 at the muzzle vs .552 bore (-.038).

I’ll shoot mine at some paper so we can see what it looks like. I’d like to see what .038 looks like.
