Here is a feeble attempt to show the scale of the migrating flocks. Know that there is way more outside the field of view of the camera lens than what is captured. Ear plugs are useful when up close and personal.

As seen from as close as I could get just walking into the field before they finally spook and move a few hundred yards further. If you were wearing white and walked in slow enough (no dog) and took your time, a limit of 20 birds might be taken with your 10 gauge (maybe second barrel needed, maybe not).

What species are the dark birds? I've heard of Blue Geese but don't recall if they might just be immature Snows.

Its been my underatanding that the Blue geese are just a different color phase of the snow goose. The same theory as a black and grey squirrel. Same critter just a different color phase.

Those pics bring back memories of my waterfowling days in Manitoba. Then the limit was 5.

Speaking of squirrels...... NUTS, the $1M still up for grabs. Never too old to learn something new (to me). It appears the white phase is a recessive gene and the blue phase a dominant gene for the same species.

No studying for me...I gave it up for Lent. Whenever I asked Mom how to spell something she told me to look it up in the dictionary. I didn't want to know what the word meant just how to spell it. Never really learned that very well.:p

Yeah look it up in the dictionary (herd that myself ofter) sometimes kind of hard when you don't know how to spell it. Boy that flock could reek havic on some ol farmers wheatfield.

I really enjoyed that post. I really look forward to seeing those birds when I have driven through Saskatchewan in the fall. Should be going through in the first week of October this year on my way to the upper peneinsula oc Michigan and Minnesota for some Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock hunting.

Saw just a few flakes of snow here Wednesday when out training my Field Bred Enjglish Cocker puppy. Winter is over but one can find patches of snow still on the ground.

Alot of those birds winter down here in southeast Texas. I hunted them once and enjoyed it but now I just make a trip to the nearby reserve to listen and watch once or twice a year. They really are a sight. Its not really fall/winter until I hear them comming over the house.

I've fired a couple of barrels into a bunch like that a couple times, it's amazing how many fall......
