Restocking a Superposed
|
thanks for posting, makes anyone which has hit a dump restocking a gun relive our pain.
|
It happens.
I am surprised that was not visible on the top of the blank. Certainly after it was rough cut out. |
Yikes, that is a bummer!
Just some arm chair forensics here, but I wonder if there might have been a hint in the first picture on the left side? |
As close as that flaw is to the surface, this should have been spoted as a flaw. When I'm selecting a blank & I spot a crack or flaw I use a long needle to probe the flaw. They can go very deep. Although, I have cut into a perfectly flawless blank & they ended up looking like swiss cheese. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.

It was a complete surprise.
The question is, will lightning strike twice? https://i.imgur.com/BL2SHdU.png https://i.imgur.com/lrfcHSH.png |
That happens from time to time with feathercrotch walnut. At least Cecil will replace the blank. Many won't.
|
Cecil is a gem.
Here's the new blank. Right out of the duplicator. Moisture added to bring back a little color. Plenty or work ahead :corn: https://i.imgur.com/FPSDRS5.png |

Nice old Stanley, No. 4?
