Buying American

2 Attachment(s)
Being as how pipe and cigar smoking kinda go hand in hand with double gunning, i thought this might be of interest. I still smoke a few cigars, nothing like I used to, but a couple a week. Oftentimes it's something on the lower end of the price spectrum because that's about all you can buy that's still made here in the States with US tobacco. Today I became aware of a higher end smoke from J.C. Newman that's absolutely 100% USA down to the wrapper. Even the swag is all Made in the USA! So cool, kinda made my day.

This part of Connecticut was traditionally known for shade grown tobacco. Lots of kids I knew, growing up, got their first job picking tobacco. The leaves were supposedly the best wrapper leaf, and there used to be several well known cigars from CT. Judges Cave, and Muniemaker were two I remember my grandfather enjoyed. There was a big die off of tobacco farmers, but in the last 20 years or so, there has been a big resurgence, though not under the cheese cloth tents of the past. There is one cigar, made just up the road a piece in Hazardville (Home of the Hazard Powder Co), called, appropriately "Local".

Destroy, I shoot skeet every Sunday morning at my club, Plymouth Rod and Gun. I get there early so I can enjoy a nice cigar with a good friend who enjoys the same. Only one a week and only at the club. Would not miss a good smoke for anything.

JC Newman also does the Brickhouse cigars, which are pretty nice.

Nicaraguan tobaccos....
