Miroku Question
 

Good morning:

I have a Charles Daly Superior O/U manufactured by Miroku. With the barrels removed, there is movement/play at the bottom of the frame or receiver (Hammer Plate/Cocking Lever). It does not move with the barrels installed, and both hammers strike with trigger pull. Before I perform any disassembly, is this normal? I don't recall ever seeing this in a Browning.

I have one of those in the safe. If you can post a picture of what you are concerned about, I can take a look, and see if mine does the same thing.

In the one image, you can see a slight gap with the plate. You can move it around with a finger. With the barrels off, the cocking lever should be to the right, with the hammer plate up. You can manually push it up into position by moving the lever to the right and it will stay. Or you can manually push it back down. With the gun assembled, it cocks, fires, and ejects. My bigger fear is finding parts. Especially since it is a .410. I'm bringing it by a shop on Monday. Just trying to get an idea.

I have a Charles Daly Superior grade 20ga made by Miroku. I have had it for 40 years. When I store the gun both barrels are fired on snap caps, stored with springs in the relaxed position. The gun does not cock with the forend off. In that situation I have to push the lever to the right to get the barrels back on. To the best of my knowledge it as always worked this way. They are great guns.

If I understand the question, I don't think there is anything wrong with this gun.

It's fine. I disassembled it, cleaned it, and reassembled it. I took it out this morning and fired ten rounds out of it. It functioned flawlessly.

I guess I was just over-thinking it like we do from time to time.

Well perhaps I should thank you for your post. It caused me to dig out my 20ga Daly Superior to look at it's function. I decided to take it with me to the club yesterday and shot a 24/25 on a round of skeet. 24's don't come along too often. I went home thinking I really should shoot it more, like I said earlier they are great guns. Good luck with your 410 going forward.

P.S. 15 years ago I had Mike Orlen put choke tubes in it. It's been far more versatile than the factory 28" f/m.

It sounds like your gun is alright. Enjoy. My father has a Daly in 20 gauge he’s been shooting regularly for 50+ years. A few years back, he experienced a broken hammer spring and I had it rebuilt by Bob Storms in Arizona. He was the Miroku gunsmith in the U.S. and bought all the parts many years ago. He is quite elderly now and not sure if he is still working. But if so, he is the go-to guy if you have any problems.
