Before and After
 

I picked up this little GHE 20 Damascuss several weeks ago. She had 104 years of use but has good screws, dimensions Damascuss bbls ect. After some deliberation I decided she needed a little TLC on the what looked to be a nice piece of wood under 104 years of dirt, and grime.

Here are the befor and after pictures of the stock and forarm.

Pretty nice chunk of wood on the "Old Girl"and this just goes to show ya if COB can post pictures ANYBODY can.....:rotf: Talk about an exercise in futility...whew....:rolleyes:

Dear COB, how do you restore the wood? Any tips for the rest of us would be really helpful.

WOWOW!!!! That is outstanding!!! Any secrets??? The reason I ask, is tomorrow I'm picking up a GH (DAM) in 16 - 0 frame - and the wood looks EXACTLY like your "before" pics..??

The secret is....pay someone who knows what he is doing:rotf: I posted pics (or to tell the truth somebody did it for me) of a GH 16 0 frame Dam (sound familiar John?) on a thread called the Money Pit. The same guy did both stocks. For me here's the real upside...A) An excellent job, B) turn around time less than a month, C) cost to strip and refinish the wood and recut the checkering $250. IMHO a real bargin.

Great looking wood C.O.B. It's really nice to see these treasures brought back. A 16ga
O frame is a dream gun for me.

Well - ain't that the truth!!! :) HAH!!! Anyway - if you would, can you PM me the name of your contact who does such fine work?? My GH, 16 DAM - 0 frame could use a bit of lipstick, and frankly - there is no one in these parts who I can tap on the shoulder to do as good a job as what was done on yours...??

It's especially nice to have "good" wood under the grime. That wood is nice enough to be D or even C grade wood - something we don't often see on a G.

A very nice job of bringing out the true character of that wood Rich.

Something that I find is the mark of an outstanding stocker is the fact that he remained true to the original checkering patterns and the contours of the 'nose of the comb'. It is refreshing to see work of this quality.
