16 ga questions

What is a good hull for realoading that crinps good. Has any body shot golden phesants in a 2.5 chamber Trojan.

I have had good results with cheddite hulls.

I scrounge the 2 1/2" RST hulls from every shoot I go to. I think these are Cheddite hulls. I know people that reload the black Remington 2 3/4" hulls with good success.

Calvin,The only hull I reload in 16 gauge right now is the black Remington Game Load.I can get quite a few reloads before they are crispy. Thanks to one of our members I have some Winchester hulls that I will play with down the road.

Ditto on the Remington 16ga black hulls.

The Parker 16ga chambers are 2 9/16". I use the Rems in my guns. The Rems are 2 11/16" , which is close enough for me.

I'm down at the White Sands Missile Test Range in southern New Mexico at present for the Bataan Memorial Marathon on Sunday ( I'm walking). Dust and wind.

the rem hulls are strong and will load many times..they hold there memory crimp almost to good..putting the wadding in is a little tough some times... not a good hull to roll crimp but they are a good hull all the way around...the whinchester hull will roll crimp as good as a paper hull there memotry crimp is not near as good as a rem.. and they will not load as many times.... so in my opion use the remington if you want a long lasting hull and use the whinchester hull if you want to roll crimp.... charlie

And yes, the RST's are Cheddite Hulls. I also save them for reloading.

Don't overlook the Federal/Estate hulls. As long as you don't let the fiber base wad get wet they are good for 7 - 8 loadings. I like to trim them to 2 9/16th inches after the crimps start getting weak and roll crimp them for my short chamber Parkers and Foxes. Great for those heaver loads as they have more internal capacity than the Remington and slightly more than the Cheddite. They work best with Gualandi 1618 for 1 1/8th ounce loads, 1621 for 1 ounce and 1621 with a bit of puffed rice or Styrofoam filler for 7/8th ounce light loads.
