Professor guns

I've had some things going on since the first of the year and had backed off a bit on clays shooting. Finally today things lined up and I had a 410 bore Winchester Model 42 out for Sporting Clays. She's one of the last 42's made in 1963 with Deluxe wood and is factory choked: Skeet. Today it was 2-1/2" Aguila import shells with 1/2 ounce of 8's. I like to call target configured 410's like this "Professors" - you hit or miss and with very few chippers. And every miss is an opportunity to figure out why and correct. Yep, I was a little rusty after two months' semi-hiatus and surely didn't come in with a good score. Not even close. :)

Well anyway, here are some pics of the 42.

The finest small bore pump gun ever made! She’s a beauty and everyone should own at least one.

Frank, That's a real nice one, I have 3 and love those guns.

Thanks guys. This gun of course has the WRA logo grip cap and same on its butt plate. Jim, I also have three 42's. This VR Skeet gun and an early straight grip/vent rib Skeet that came from my friend Ed, now passed, a long time ago. Ed’s is well used but still tight as a tick. Third one is a solid rib Field grade in high collector condition. But with all that said I really don't need three of them but we all know how that goes.

I was watching another nice Winchester 42 VR gun that sold last night after some spirited bidding on GB. $2525. + $45. shipping + 6% sales tax + 1% tax allocation for a buyer here in PA = about $2750.

Looks like the "professor" is back at school. Nice going Frank and a sweet gun.

I have one pre-war 42 that has turned brown with patina. The previous owner said his grandfather bought it in 1936. I tried to convince him to keep it or give it to his son but he said he didn't want it so I traded a new AR 15 for it. Later discussion found that he used to hide his marijuana in it and the piece to shorten the magazine is a piece of an old pool stick. A great shooter with a 26 mod barrel, as said before, everyone should have at least one.

I do have a current offer to sell it back to the family for what I paid for the AR 15 but so far it is still in the safe.

that gun looks immaculate. A real beauty . I personally never cared for them and did not enjoy shooting them. Same for model 12s, and 870s. but for some strange reason I liked the model 37.
