VHE 12 Gauge barrels
How hard is it to fit an extra set of barrels to a vhe gun.
Do the frame size have to match when switching. Would the fore ends be able to be used ? I would like to get a longer set of barrels for a vhe skeet gun that I have. Any advice would be appreciated. |
The frame sizes must match but still, it will be trial & error to find a set that is close enough to work with to fit to your gun. Preferably from a similar serial number range.

As barrels and frames were hand fitted, to find a barrel set that just drops in is a challenge. I bought a number of complete guns in a search for a replacement set for a family gun. None fit. After a dozen years on the hunt I came across a barrel set that did drop in with just the slightest bit of play. Did not effect functionality. The two serial numbers were 1078 apart. Wish you success in your search.

There is absolutely no way to know how much work you are in for. A little, or a ton. There is that much variation from gun to gun. And serial number proximity means nothing.

Its possible, I bought a set of 20 ga barrels that required very minimal work to fit to my 16 ga hammer gun, both O frame. I have 2 16 ga Fox Sterlingworth's that I can swap barrels with. Guess I was real lucky

The task is not impossible, but can be difficult. By the time you buy a second set of bbls it may be less costly and more expedient to just buy a longer barreled VH grade gun.
I picked up a lifter in 12g for a project gun. Looked for a second set of bbls. A member had a set w/fore-end and I bought them. I was thinking it would take fitting for the second set. When they arrived the bbls set right on the action and the fore-end fit too! Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. |
