Upgraded PH

4 Attachment(s)
I saw these pictures and was wondering what the extra screws by the hinge pin are for on this upgraded PH? I see it started life as a Twist, 0 frame 16 and is now a Vulcan PHE 20. In terms of value, is it a pieced gun or is this an original if repaired/altered at the factory?
thanks,
Zack

Aftermarket automatic ejectors; see previous thread(s) for possible ID of maker/installer. Likely Josef Singer, Wolfsperger & Moran, etc.

Those proof marks on the watertable raise an interesting question.

Belgium proofs -

wonder if it was rebarreled there?

are there similar proofs on the underside of the barrel tubes?

The Moran & Wolfersperger after-market ejectors have a pin in that location. The C.A. Fischer ejector conversion doesn't. Those proof marks are Belgian. Any pictures of the barrel flats? Inside of the forearm?

The rib matting and the rib legend don't look correct

What does the "book" say for that serial number. Looks to me like the gun was rebarreled and the ejectors added in Belgium.

Price & Fjestad says:

Confirming in large part Zachary’s notes in his first posting, for 160788 the “book” says:

PT H 0 C 16 28

For clarification on one point, third column XT is for extras. The 33 possible codes are at page 61 of Price & Fjestad. XTRA Code 0 is for no features or options installed on a gun at the factory. Ejectors is one of the six features noted in the “book”.

As I understand it, frame sizes are not recorded in the Parker factory records. I for one, wish the frame sizes were noted. But of all the features on a Parker Brothers shotgun that can be altered, frame size is rarely (if ever?) changed. I can measure for frame size anytime I want, and do it all day long and feel solid in my confidence that I am looking at the factory original configuration. It seems that every other feature is “up for grabs”, limited only by the ingenuity of the person doing the gunsmithing work.

For example, hammer to hammerless: https://www.remingtonsociety.org/an-...by-louis-diss/

I did read about a guy in England who says he “once converted .177 BSA airgun into an O/U 16 gauge side lock ejector using a kit from Woolworths”. He said “it was quite an easy conversion, only took about three hours”. A friend of his said “don’t laugh, gave my friend a lift to Woolworths for the kit and got booked for a parking offense”.

Why do you call it an upgrade? It is a PH. That has been rebarreled with aftermarket barrels and fitted with aftermarket ejectors. If you refer to the Vulcan name on the barrels, that would be a downgrade from a PH.

Brain, I used the term "upgrade" for the fact it now has ejectors and has rid it of twist barrels to modern steel. Someone, somewhere upgraded it in my opinion.
