Correct recoil pad
What would be a period-correct pad for a 1925 DHE 12 gauge? Where can I get one?
|
Parker catalogs of that period stated that any butt pad would be used at the customers option so if there is no research info on your gun specifying the pad type then I suppose you can just pick the one that best suits your fancy. Silvers is one that is often seen but there are others.

The gun I am working with has a LOP which is short for me, and is too straight. A thick pad (and perhaps a spacer) will give me a better LOP and some modest improvement in drop. Is there a pad comparison chart which would guide me to a thicker pad?

Actually not ANY pad, but any pad that was in production at that time. That takes a bit of research to determine. You could accidentally put a pad on it that would be vintage, but not in production at the time the gun was ordered. That would be a mistake if you were trying to keep it vintage correct.
I've never seen a pad over 1" thick that looked correct on a vintage gun, to me. If a 1" pad isn't enough to get you to the LOP you need I would advise adding a KickKiller leather lace on recoil pad over the recoil pad. It will gain you an additional 1/2" and can be quickly removed when needed. |
I have a DHE produced in 1912 that letters as originally ordered with a Silvers pad… and it’s still on the gun.

See Randy's note above. He says many different pads would be correct for this gun. I'm just asking which is the thickest
