12 gauge chokes
I purchased a 12 and 20 gauge Winchester Parker during the close out sales and have never used the 20 and only shot a few boxes out of the 12.
I took it out tonight to clean it a bit and plan on taking it skeet shooting tomorrow, I have always assumed it was choked imp cyl and mod as stamped on the water tables. I measured it with my stick in the end of the barrel gauge an it measures cyl and imp cyl. I checked both the 20 gauge and a 28 gauge and they are consistent with the chokes on the water table. Is this normal? The gun was only owned by me so the chokes have not been altered. |
What constrictions in thousandths did you measure with your stick? Are your barrels 26" or 28" long? The 12ga. 28" Repro that I owned that was stamped IC/M measured .006/.011 of constriction.

I do not have that type of gauge and the barrels are 26 “

I would have to believe that Parker Reproductions were consistant in their 12ga. choke constriction in both 26" and 28" IC/M choked guns at .006/.011. Your gun should work fine for casual non-competitive skeet.

Just a comment.... I would assume that the reproduction barrels were made to more modern specs. If so then the bore could/should be from .729 to .735 . Choke charts for modern 12ga barrels show .006 as "slight tight skeet and .011 as slight tight IC (with .005 and .010 being skeet and IC.

The stepped gauges that you stick in the front of the barrels to measure chokes can be notoriously inaccurate. If tha is what you used for measuring the chokes.

I have a 12 28" that is stamped IC/Mod but measures .006/.012. It is a wonderfully useful set of barrels. I'm not sure I would want to eat a grouse shot with the tight barrel however.
|
Gary, shoot that grouse with a 20 ga 26 inch barreled Repro. You can eat the grouse after that.
|
Just my way of saying that a 1 oz load from a .012 choke is plenty tight. I do use a repro 20 choked .004/.008 for grouse and they die and eat just fine.
