32" BBL'd 28 gauge

I had a chance to buy one of these a few years back. It was a somewhat beat-up DHE. Price was in the 4,000.00 range. Loved the feel of the long BBL’s on a small-bore, but I’ve always been a 12 ga. Guy.
How rare are 32" BBL's on a 28 gauge?

Dean Romig 02-15-2011 01:42 PM

Extreeeemly rare.

Titanic I presume?

I can't remember, but would assume Titanic BBL's. It was a California gun, that I saw at a pigeon shoot.
It was amazing, looking back, at some of the treasures that would show up at pigeon shoots back in the day.

While small gauges and long barrels are not favored by all, they seem to be popular and bring a lot of attention. Here's one , a DHE 20/32, that I've been told would be presently valued at around $15,000 to $20,000 and which many people have inquired about. Lots of case colors left. A 28 would be more, assuming same condition.

Edwin Hedderly, the editor of Western Field magazine got a Parker Bros. DHE-Grade 32-inch barrel 28-gauge. Hedderly's order was placed April 4, 1911. It had a 15 1/2 inch length-of-pull a Silvers recoil pad and no safety, just exactly like the 20-gauge he ordered on February 10, 1911.

In thumbing thru the grades in The Parker Story, I total up about 44 or 45 32-inch barrel 28-gauges.

Does anyone know how many 32" BBL'd 28 gauge guns were made, and how many in D Grade?

14 DH 28 ga. with 32" barrels
