Another PA Archery Buck
1 Attachment(s)
Friday, October 22 I put the smack down on another nice PA buck. I watched him all week from various stands and was making changes as the week went on. I was seeing two shooter buck every day and on Wednesday I saw three shooters. Every buck I saw that week was either trailing or chasing doe. I saw this guy in the AM for about 10 seconds as he scent checked a field. That afternoon I set up a doe decoy with plenty of "stinky" to attract him. About 4:45 three doe came flying into the field chased by a spike buck. Then I saw antlers above the switchgrass strip and there he was. 45 yards. The spike came into the decoy and I thougt he'd ruin the hunt. On the contrary, the big boy saw him by the decoy and broke away from the three doe. His demeanor changed, ears back and hair standing on end. The spike ran off like a rocket. I guess he was tired of having his a$$ kicked. The buck quartered in head low and stopped, head stuck out sniffing the decoy. At 20 yards I perforated him. And it was all over but the gutting. This marked the 10th year in a row I was fortunate to take a buck with a bow. The next day doe #1 went down to my inline as it was the final day of the week long inline season. Three days later doe #2 went down at 48 yards to the bow. One doe tag remains for the Ruger #1 in .280 to be bloodied this coming weekend as our two week rifle season opens on Saturday. God bless us, everyone!!
