Another primer substitution question

I purchased a1000 cci 209 trap and skeet primers are they interchangeable with standard cci209 primers
There is some good info out there but not a direct answer to my guestion
Thanks

To me, primers are primers.

To my knowledge, CCI makes 209 and 209M (Magnum) primers. Use the Reloading data which calls for that specific primer. Substuting primers when the load is at high pressure to begin with can be dangerous. Use published data.

It is my understanding that CCI primers are a bit hotter. Take Chuck’s advice.

Have never heard of trap and skeet primers. Where did you get them?

I just finished a sleeve of CCI 209’s no noticeable difference compared to Win 209. However my grandson used them in in his Beretta Gas gun. Parker’s I stick to Win 209 primers. Low pressure loads probably OK but better to be cautious. You could refer to Hodgdons or or Alliants on line manuals that show pressure and components.

Good advice. And why not simply contact CCI and ask THEM if there's any practical difference? They will be happy to tell you. Legally.

And please do NOT sub a Federal 209 for any other in a load. Federals are good for about .5 grs. addition powder strength.

I've posted this before. Assume it's still valid

I agree completely, especially in the small bores with their higher pressures. The regular CCI primer is mild. Much more so than the hot Federal Primers and others. The CCI 209M is a hot primer in the Federal league. Substituting a recipe for a mild primer like the standard CCI or Remington can raise pressures significantly with little or no increase in velocity. The Lyman Shotshell Reloaders Manual has a nice study on the different primers and their effect on pressures.

The old Rem 209p and the rem209p sts are the same primer and may be substituted in place of each other . This is from the info I found which makes me happy.
