12-gauge, 3-inch

The great 3-inch 12-gauge CHE our man Josh is marketing brings some questions to mind. The gun Josh is marketing sports a 1939 Remington barrel date code --
Attachment 97537 The only other such gun I've recorded is also a CHE with a 1940 barrel date code -- Attachment 97538 From the January 2, 1939, Parker Price List -- Attachment 97539 These late guns from Ilion are well marked, but what about such guns from Meriden from the 1924-5 introduction of these mighty 3-inch, 1 3/8 ounce, progressive burning smokeless powder loads -- Attachment 97541 This was the Brothers P rather vague statement in the 1929 catalog -- Attachment 97540 Anyone have a gun from 1925 to the move to Ilion that letters as a 12-gauge 3-inch? Any special markings? Care to share? |
The post order book records, before Remington era, consist of stock book records. If 3" chambers are not entered in the stock book for a certain gun, you are on your own to identify it as an original 3" gun. I have never seen a pre Remington gun identified as a 3" gun by markings.
