Single trigger issue

I was shooting my VHE Parker skeet gun on sporting clays yesterday and had an issue with the single selective trigger. This was only the 2nd time I shot the skeet gun.
While shooting it was very difficult to move the selector from right to the left barrel.
I’m not familiar with the single triggers.
After cleaning up the shotgun this am, I tried a few things.
The gun has a none selective safety, I tried putting the safety on and it seemed to work better.
Is the some procedure for switching the barrels ?
Any suggestions would be welcome.

IMO either it needs cleaning or possibly the bottom tang screw has been overtiggtened.

What is a non selective safety and how does "putting the safety on" improve the shooting? The procedure for switching the barrels is the procedure you described as difficult. You don't do that switching while shooting as you suggest. You do it before you shoot, or never. Congratulations on owning a great gun.

Over tightening the tang screw shouldn’t have any affect on the trigger selector. Safety, yes, but that isn’t the problem he’s describing.
