Parker Pages - “Parkers in Pulp”
I was spellbound reading John Davis’ column “Parkers in Pulp” and I’m sooo glad it ended the way it did!
If the back and forth of “Gaucho of the Barracks” and a Mr. W.T.D. Representing a position supporting L.C. Smith regarding Ben Teipel’s Parker had ended favoring WTD’s position we would never hear the end of cat-calls every time Team Parker bests Team Elsie in the Challenge Cup, crying “Oh you guys won because you’re shooting “Smith-bored Parkers!” Phew - we dodged that bullet !!! . |
I really enjoyed the sideways compliments.

You have to be impressed with their eloquence of speech, terminology and preponderance of adjectives used as modifiers of a noun compared to the free for all in comments on social media now days. Those fellows back in the day were randy, but they expressed it with class, at least in print.

I enjoyed it immensely. It took me a few minutes to get into the "flow" of reading and comprehending what I read. Some of the sentences are very long with lots of commas, and I found I could comprehend it all much better if I actually read a little faster instead of slower.
Anyway, kudos to John. Well done! |
It was always my favorite read in PP. Thanks John.

John’s articles are great windows into the past from a quite unique perspective. Now, he is not just writing and reporting that history but is single handedly resurrecting the glory of the Parker gun on the modern trap lines. As he campaigns his SA, SB, SC and GHE people take note of his exploits and retell the tale with a flavor that seasons these guns and him with Mystique.

I also enjoyed the read. As stated above the writers of that time knew how to work and article and keep it "fresh" without cussing someone out.... LOL
