 Pa Gameland Pheasants...

Stocked or not....the Merlot spent 6hours busting azz, and obviously, for these two....Flushed others, but it was a hard day for a little Dog in some nasty thick cover...

PA does a great job raising birds. Big, strong and good flyers! Nice day afield.

 Wonderful photo!
And I agree, western PA has some of the toughest cover to work that can be found. I hunt pheasants here in SWPA with my Springer, Finn, now in his 8th year and he is a tank. Multiflor rose, red briar, switch grass and crab apple thickets are where we find birds once they see some pressure they can become quick learners. |

Great picture! Yes the PA birds are great.
Watched a couple fly a half a mile after flushing. |

Planning on getting a Pa license this year, I live ony 15 min from the Pa border and within an hour of quite a few game lands. Pa also has a long season, even though they dont stock then, there is always a chance of finding a wylie survivor.

Perhaps one of the last hunts of the season...The Parker 16 is one I got from here and is turning into a favorite....

You are lucky to not get much snow. I was looking forward to the last two weeks of grouse season but 30 inches of snow is just too much for me to trudge through. Drove past a pheasant stocking area today and nobody hunting. Not surprising I guess. Anyway, glad to see you and the little guy had a good day.

It's a gift every time you can hunt with your dog. Merry Christmas!

many thanks to the Pa. game commission. Had a great time this year hunting the pheasants released by the state with my four year old Brit. Although often criticized by some, I found the birds to be in great shape, good flyers and a challenge especially after they been in the wild a day or two. Almost reminded me when I started the long-tailed birds over fifty yrs. ago in the the lehigh valley area when native birds were available. Sad to say not no more, but the state birds now suffice.
