Barrel grade question
The gun that I thought is a DH, is actually a GH. My mistake. The question I have is, the water table is marked G2 and the barrel flat is marked D3. The barrels are Damascus and the build year is 1907. Is it usual to have different grades on the barrels and water table?

the barrel mark is for the barrel steel, not the grade
|
That "D" you are referencing denotes Damascus, not the grade of the gun.
|
D3 is more often found on Grade 2 guns while D4 is seen on Grade 3 and 4 guns.
The 3 represents 3-iron crolle and of course the 4 represents 4-iron crolle. . |
D and G stocks , butt plates and engraving are clearly distinct by a casual glance.
