Custom painting/drawing

My cousin is having his 12 year old English Setter put down today. Would like to have a painting or drawing done of her as a gift. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

Go to the search engine and search titles only for "Best Friend Portraits". There you will find a post by Mike Franzen concerning some work that his daughter is doing. Sounds just like what you are after. Good luck.

I can certainly attest to that suggestion. Mike's daughter Madeline did this amazing charcoal wash rendition of my setter Grace. It looks beige because I took the picture 1 minute ago in fading natural light. It is actually true black & white.

It's a dead-ringer for my avatar pic isn't it?

I'd recommend Larry Cory, who happens to live in Bloomfield Hills. He has won the Michigan Duck and Trout stamp competitions 6-7 times. He would be happy to talk to your friend. He much would have preferred to work from pictures he would have taken, but perhaps the owner has some good pictures. He also would like the buyer to understand that the cost is not inconsequential, due, in part, to framing and matting costs. If interested, PM me, and I'll give you Larry's phone number

I just got my drawings from the frame shop, and they a SPOT ON!! I highly recommend Madeline Franzen. Unbelievable. My wife loved them for Christmas. Please have Madeline do your drawings.

Kirk,
In off topic I started a thread called shhhh its a secret, I think its a full page back now. Rod lawrence did an acrylic painting of our brittany, I gave it to my wife for a christmas present. An original acrylic by Rod was not inexpensive, but I have always wanted one of his original paintings, so it could not have been a better experience for my wife and myself to give the painting to her, and now we have one of his originals. Most artists will do acrylic, oil, gouache, pencil sketch, color sketch etc. All have different price ranges. Rod took about 50 pictures of our dog, he really got that painting right. Any artist you use will probably want as many good pictures as you can get to him or her. I wish you the best with your endeavor, it is such a thoughtful gift. I believe Steve Hodges started a thread about paintings too somewhere in here. Good Luck, Ed

It's interesting how closely Ed's and my posts track. He and I have talked about this stuff over a beer, and it turns out that Larry and Rod are good friends
