16 Gauge "Ideal" Grade?
 

Hey Folks, I know this is a Parker Site, however, I obtained, thru trade, an LC Smith "Ideal" Grade, 16 GA, SxS today! Its in nice shape, very shootable, and to my surprise has auto-ejectors! Bluing is nice, bores are shinny, and some case colors left. No buggered screws & good solid checkering. I had to trade a handgun that I had approx: $750 dollars in. I'm happy about the trade, just wanted to share. I will try & post some pics. :)
P.S. I know its Not a Parker but I could Not resist!

Based on your description, that's a great deal. I really like the engraving pattern on the Ideal grade, and in 16, you have a great game gun.

Even close to straight....that is a nice deal...can you tell if t is a featherweight?

Thanks for the replies! I don't believe its a Featherweight, although, I most likely would Not know the difference. However, there is the Number 1 stamped on it as well as the letter E.

That "one" stamping could be an "I" which would be the identifier for Ideal. E at the end of the serial number would signify Ejectors. Usually, in a gun of this era, and FW (for featherweight) would also be stamped to indicate the frame weight. You can also tell by the lock plate. If the plate has a rounded top, front end (where it meets the frame), it's a regular weight. If it's a right angle at that point, it's a featherweight. Check the L. C. Smith Collectors site. It's got good photos and information.

Thanks "Mobirdhunter," I did some research after reading your reply & discovered mine is a "Featherweight." Indicated by what you said, the second screw on the left lock plate, & the smaller in size forearm release! Wow, this trade I made just keeps getting better. Thanks again.

Jeffrey, I've been hoping to find an Ideal grade 16 for a while. I'm envious of your acquisition, and I'm sure you will enjoy that great piece of Americana and American craftsmanship.
