Putting back on face

How did Parker brothers put guns back on face .I have a hammerless that was sent back in 1897 for reblacking and to have action tightened.I can see a rectangle of metal about 3 mm height and 5 mm length extrnding back from the joint. This is only visible from the left side; no evdence on the right side..The area is faint but well defined;I don't think I can get a clear picture.

They replaced the "Roll" part No. 17, with one a bit larger.

This could be a later repair. This gun is an early hammerless that has had more than one restoration.
