Checkering

Has anyone seen or have documented early grade 2 hammerless parkers without checkering?

Bruce Day had a grade 2 hammer gun that was supposed to have been ordered without checkering. I do not know of the gun letters that way or if it is just believed to be that based on just physical evidence.

Other than that, I have not seen another one and I am sure it is a possibility, but it would be a slim one.

I have no doubt that a graded gun has been ordered without checkering and letters that way. I have an unengraved AAH and an unengraved CH that letter that way and know of others, so an uncheckered gun is not to be suspect. A letter is cheap provenance.

The gun in question has not been lettered yet. This 1895 10 gauge hammerless has all parts properly factory inletted except the automatic saftey rod.But the stock has a worm hole defect in the cheek that the wood grain flows around.Apparently a bad suprise for the stock maker.I wonder if this stock wound up as a "lunchbox special" and went home to be eventually fitted to this gun.No serial number is stamped under the triggerguard. The wood defect would probably explain no checkering.Anyone else seen a surplused defective stock? I decided to fill in the hole but leave it black.Did not want anything getting in or out.;):
