Non Parker Related
 

I didn't put this in the hunting with Parkers section as a Parker was not used. This is just a special moment when a grandfather was able to be in the woods with his 16yo grandson when he takes his first racked buck. I was also fortunate to be with him when he shot his first pheasant two years ago and it would have been a tough call to determine which of us was happier/prouder. Spending time in the woods with family is about as good as it gets.

Larry, Congratulations to your grandson! Thats a fine looking deer...And I know what you mean about being proud......:)

How about some details.... shotgun or bow? What time of day? On your own land I'm sure. Tree stand or ground blind? Looks like about 160 lbs. or so... 2 1/2 y.o.? How many is that so far this year for the Frey family of deer hunters?

Dean he had seen several deer during the bow season but no shot opportunities presented themselves. He had Monday and Tuesday off from school because of the election so I took Monday off from work to rifle hunt on our land. The rifle he used was the same 30-30 lever action Marlin that both my son and I had taken our first deer with. Now im not rushing things but I sure would like to see a fourth generation get their first deer with that same rifle.:)

That's great Larry. By the looks of him I'd say you won't have too long to wait until that fourth "first deer" is taken with the family Marlin.

I've hung onto the Winchester 94 .30 -.30 ("thuddy-thuddy" as we call them in V'mont) that I took my first, second, third and fourth bucks with. Next year I'll be taking my grandson for a hunting overnite in grouse season for a starter. He'll be about six-and-a-half by next October and I can't wait! I hope someday to be as fortunate as you were, to be there when he shoots his first deer.

Congratulations Larry to both you and your grandson. I remember how happy I was to shoot my first deer and I can't imagine how proud and happy a dad or granddad would be, at the time of the first kill of anything, with the son/daughter/grandchild, it has to be very special. I believe I could take you to the spot where I killed my first squirrel with my dad.

That was a nice first buck as well.

This is EXACTLY the kind of interaction America needs to be going on with it's families. It's what we are missing as a nation. I don't care if it was killed with a rock, I doubt if there is a person on this board that didn't enjoy that picture. If you love doubles ( and bamboo fly rods, sorry had to toss that in there ), you have to love, appreciate and respect that picture. Jerry
