Measurements
 

I recently adopted a CHE 16 that has always felt somewhat small in the grip. The wrist is indeed small in diameter but the distance from the back of the top tang to the nose of the comb is the culprit as it's only 1 3/4 inches. I have measured several other guns and the same measurement is between 2 1/4 & 2 1/2 inches. All guns are straight stocks.

Would/could have this been a special order? I have a letter on the gun and LOP is 14, DAC 1 1/2, DAH 2 5/8 so the dimensions arn't to bad but the cramped feeling I get from shooting it is somewhat uncomfortable.

Send it to David Trevallion. He will lengthen the grip area pulling the nose of the comb back and you'll not be able to detect that it had been worked on without comparing before & after pictures.

I hate to alter this and ruin the originality of this gun. I just thought the grip area was rather small. I doubt it was ordered for a child maybe a woman but I bet it was a special request.

I assume you couldn't get an order book entry.

Bill the letter is from 2006 and states the stock book is missing. The order book is #61 just states the gun was returned for credit and book #60 states who it was sold to etc. Nothing in the letter relates to the measurements I describe.

Rich, if nothing is said about the wrist/comb area of your concern and someone can properly make it to what you want - why not ? I don't believe for a minute that every Parker made has never been altered. You're not taking it to some weird dimensions but to what was the norm. I just came from Bachelders and he showed me a Parker stock that had a screw put through it behind the reciever because it had cracked. Brad removed the screw, fixed the crack, then milled the stock on both sides. He then found two pieces of wood to match the stock and glued them on. I swear, you could NOT see what he had done. I looked at the repair with my reading glasses on for two or three minutes trying to see the glue line. I don't know how he did it - the stock look original. I would not be afraid to get with him for any repairs of fine double guns - and he's in Michigan close to you. He had just finished a Remington Special [ only four of them known ] and was working on a Parker A Grade. Paul

Knowing now (through PM) which gun Rich is referencing, I wouldn't alter that gun for any reason.

I have given this a lot of thought, and rather than send it to Travalian send it to me!! I collect C grades and that would make a perfect addition to the collection.
