Major Collector's Firearms Auction

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...153_1_md-1.jpg
Sold at auction today Major Collector's Firearms Auction for $3200 plus 12.5% buyer premium. Parker Bros 12ga exposed hammer shotgun , serial #6567. The gun shows 28-1/8” barrels, 44-1/2” overall. Approx 75-85% original brown on barrels with good patterning. 40-60% case hardening drifting to silver on the action. Trigger guard has gone to grey. Stocks are good, would be very good other than a small chip at the area of the barrel key at the top edge of the forend on the right side. The actions are tight, the gun locks up well, the bores are good with some slight roughness.

It's good to see these guns holding their value.

At a local auction 2 weeks ago a 20 ga GHE ser# 238953 brought 8K + 7% sales tax + $25 transfer fee if you did not have a FFL and vendors lic. Was a nice gun but it had a pad I thought the stock had been cut (13 1/2") There were 87 hand guns and 53 long guns. An agent from ATF showed up just before the start and changed the rules.

???

Before the agent showed up the transfers were going to be done at the auction site and nothing was anounced about a $25 fee. He had the auction take all the guns that were not bought by a FFL holder to the preminse of the FFL holder that did the transfers and the transfers were done at his shop. Buyers had to pay at the auction site. The guys shop was 15 miles from the auction site.

So, I assume the auction house didn't hold an FFL and was selling guns? The $25 fee is most likely a small transfer fee charged to do the paperwork by the actual FFL holder.

No they did not have a FFL. The guns were from an estate and they were moved to the fair grounds - thats why the sales tax.

Other lots, Parkers, etc at Major Collector's auction...

I spoke to a well known dealer before the auction. He felt this auction and prices would be a good market indicator given the quality and quantity of firearms.

Early bidding on many lots was hammered at below low estimate, not including a 10% buyers premium and 9.75% sales tax for in state buyers. Exceptions were odd such as a couple Winchester "collectibles", a flashlight display for $1,900 and a lawnmower were desirable.

A re-stocked 12 gauge DHE hammered for $3K and $3K for a 12 gauge Trojan in high original condition. A original condition 12 gauge PH went north of $3200but I can't confirm final. My calculations stopped when it appeared it would pass $3.8K for an OK, but underwhelming PH. A upcoming .410 DHE in high condition will be an interesting market indicator.

I doubt that the .410 DHE will suffer much from the slow market.

Mark Vollinger 10-28-2010 05:09 PM

DHE .410

Bill, you are correct. the gun hammered for $47.5K
