Travelling gun cases
URL for airline firearms regs. Found it on the Americase website while looking at their gun cases. They seem the best I've seen yet, better than the Ziegel cases. I saw one in the back of a pickup here in Grand Rapids Minn and was most impressed and plan to get one as soon as I get home. The latches are the same as a Halliburton case and the construction is very similar similar. I'd encourage anyone looking for a baggage handler proof travelling case to have a look at them. They have a lot of configurations and seem to lack only some small gauge options some of us might like and 26" bbl options. They have cordura covers as an option also, which I will opt for. These things look very nice and will make me retire my big flat clumsy Cabelas case for sure.

I have an Americase that came with my K-80. It's been on airlines a few times and other than some scratches, it held up nicely. Only drawbacks are price and weight.

I have an Americase double sided take down - it is built like a tank and if somehow you can damage it the customer service is great. But it also weighs like a tank, it is my choice when travelling by vehicle. I have no doubt the case would survive even if the truck didn't.
My last airline trip with a firearm, I borrowed a friend's TuffPak - http://www.tuffpak.com/ it was a breeze get through the airport, it does not scream gun, several people asked about golf and i saw it handled by baggagemen a couple times and due to its conformation they had to stack it carefully. ( as opposed to one friend who watch his aluminum case miss landing on the baggage cart when tossed from the plane). and everything arrived in perfect shape. |
I have seen my Aries cases thrown great distances by baggage handlers. It really doesn't bother me, but I would like to have some pictures. I have lost a couple of corners but never any damage to the guns.

Rick is right about the Tuffpaks; they look great also. You can stuff several long guns in that are in soft cases, stuff clothes in around them and go. I met a guy at an airport who had taken expensive guns to Africa 10x with his with no damage to anything. They are truly "tuff"...
