Ultrasonic cleaner..
Have any of you ever used one of these to clean part's ? I have access to one and was wondering if it could be a viable option to cleaning out the engraving on old gun's ,it stand's to reason that if there is old gunk surface rust on the peice then there may also be some of the same in the engraving and making it shallow (for a lack of a better word).my understanding is this will clean everything down to the original metal.....any thought's ?

Absolutely...They are the ONLY way to clean a gun thoroughly. I put a jar of lacquer thinner into mine and surround it with water then drop entire gummed up actions in and let them stew for a while. You'll never see the inside of a gun so clean. I have a small jar of thinner for small parts. You can also just use hot water and dish soap; not too hot though as most have a hi-temp shutoff. They start back up when they cool down. Give it a try; you'll never go back.
