Parker Steel
Do we know how many Parker Steel barrels were made?? How many would have been on PH guns? If overall, a gun is in good condition, does Parker steel add more to value or not? There is one out there, 220XXX. It is not in the book. I'm supposed to be digging out old shrubs today, but the email check brought in another "itis" virus that plays havoc with a Parker compromised immune system. Nope, coffee and stumps and leave the computer. XXX rated SN? What's that. See if you too can find 220883

I don't know the count Jack, but the vast majority of Parker Steel barrels would have been used on Grade 1 guns while Parker Special Steel (or Special Steel) barrels were used on Grade 2 guns. There are however, exceptions to every rule and a small number of either of these two types of barrels may have been used to re-barrell guns that were originally made with Twist or Damascus barrels.

Jack,There was a total of 1,339 guns made with Parker Steel barrels. If you could tell us the gauge I could narrow it further.
|
Thanks Dave: Already it is one of 1339 built. 12 gauge 30" barrels with ejectors impcyl/impmod pg dt gutta percha butt, bores vg wood vg wood/metal fit vg
over 50%cc on frame I don't need to evaluate another ejector gun and I don't need another gun but with this info, what more can you pull out of the hat??? Cheers, Jack |
Jack,That narrows it down further. In 12 gauge it would be 1 of 839 made and Grade 1 guns with Parker Steel barrels would sell for a premium.I Have a whole list of ways to rationalize buying another Parker. Let me know if you need to borrow some of them.....

Jack,
To make it even more imperitive to persue this gun. I think that 1,339 was a projection based on missing stock books. I think the serialization books puts the total in all guages at 1003, but I may be wrong as I am just going from memory. Erick |
PS Barrels
Take a look back for a brief note in Parker Pages by Mark Conrad. It appears that many PS barrels are noted in the order books as PT. He found this through a notation of "black barrels" on an order for several PH guns that are noted as PT.

Thanks gents.
Dave: You're such a pal. I don't need them all, but I wouldn't mind a look at your top three that can compete well with "Mama needs new shoes". Along with the rationale, is there an optimal time for its use in idle conversation that works to advantage and retains wedded bliss as well?????? |
Jack,
That old gun, I've had it for years. Always worked for me! Jeff |
