VH Barrel Engraving

1 Attachment(s)
Hi-

I am refinishing a Parker VH (see the thread "Learning on a Parker VH") and have a question on the engraving technique for the triangular cuts found on the barrels.

Here is a picture of the barrel engraving on an untouched VH that I own:

What technique creates this look? I tried a flat graver set on edge then twisted 45 degrees clockwise (I am right handed) thinking that would give the effect, but it does not look right.

I would appreciate guidance from those who know!

Thanks

Brian Arthur

Thanks. The Engravers Cafe is an excellent resource I was not aware of, and this tutorial you linked to Brian will keep me busy for a while.
