Parker Woodworking Vise
 

I purchased a Parker #25 Woodworking vise recently. It is missing a part that stabilizes the screw between the guides. I looked in the Parker story for a picture so I can make a replacement, but no luck. Does anyone have a vise like this that can post a picture of the missing part or does anyone have a original ad that may show the missing part?

I am looking at your pictures and compare it to the one (not a Parker) on my bench and I can't see what is missing? The one on my bench has a pin in the screw so I can't back it all the way off but that's about all I see different.

If you bolt the back part to a bench and lube the guides it looks like your's should work?

There is a block of steel or iron missing that fits between the rods. It is shaped to stay put and keep the rods from banging around. I might have one that will work as I have a couple of Parker vices that are hors de combat from age and abuse.I won't be home for a couple of days to look though.

Bill, you're not missing anything that I can see. I have one that is somewhat larger and is as complete as the one you picture. Mine has no more parts than yours has.

Not all use them but I think this one is missing the captive piece that the threaded rod screws into and it in turn fits over the smooth rods.Otherwise the threaded rod is free to move all over the place.

Some have all 3 rods fitting into a yoke and the threaded rod has a cotter pin that keeps it from coming out when the vise is opened all the way out.Some use a block that fits between the smooth rods and I think that is what you are missing.

Had it sand blasted today and had the paint mixed to match the original color and got a coat on it. I am in the process of making the missing part, although it would be nice to have a picture to go by. When I get it done I will post some pictures. This is a much nicer vise then you can buy new from one of the woodworking outlets.
