Extractor
 

I keep having a shell slip past my extractor and jamming in my right barrel...the kicker is it only happens when I'm in the thick of quail. I can not reproduce it at the gun club...I've shot 150 shells at sporting clays without one occurrence. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Can it be fixed on a 108 y/o gun? :cuss::banghead:

The fix may be as easy as using the same brand of cartridges for game as you do for clays. I.e. rim diameter of the case may be larger on your clays ammunition. Recoil of your (small rim?) hunting loads may add to the problem there.

Look to the cartridge first before altering the gun...

I concur with Kensal on his advice, plus its the much easier remedy. Those extracters maybe worn some, especially right barrel since it is probably the one shot the most, but that might not be the entire cause.

BTW are you noticing if the shells that are being fired if the hulls are deformed and or/are they reloads?

Thanks guys. I've been using RST spreader loads and they haven't been reloaded. I was using a different RST shell and thought it was them...so I switched back to the spreaders loads this last trip and it happened on Saturday one time with the spreader loads.

Had this same issue one time, and determined that if I opened and closed the gun more forcibly than usual, the problem showed up....In my case, it occurred when shooting flurry games, when I moved over to 5 stand with the same gun, and no issue, as I wasn't just hitting the lever and letting the gun fall open as I reached for my reloads and slapping the action shut. At five stand, skeet and trap I open and close the gun more smoothly.... All of that being said, in my case the rim of the extractor was okay, but the "channel" that the extractor traveled in for and aft in the barrels had wallowed out a little...Kirk Merrington fixed it easily, but until I could get the gun to him, I put a large dose of high viscosity "blue" grease in there, and it seemed to help.

That was another thought I had but was not certain, but sounds like a logical wear area. BTW what is the mechanical fix for that wear area. I can think of a few ways but don't know what would be the best.

I will look at the gun and see, but i assume he added some metal ti the rod or the track.

Never had that problem with a Parker but one of my 16 G pumps gave occasional feed problems. Narrowed it down to Cheddite Hulls. Remington never a issue. Measuring carefully the Cheddites had smaller rims than Remington’s or Winchester’s
